Ubukata Industries Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minami-ku, Nagoya; President: Shinnosuke Ubukata; “Ubukata”), SAP Japan Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hiroshi Suzuki; “SAP Japan”), and OneAyle Consulting Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Shotaro Takasaki; “OneAyle”) today announced that Ubukata will proceed with building a next-generation core business platform with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition at its centre, with a view to enhancing management capabilities and enabling future AI-driven value creation.
OneAyle’s Role
As the implementation partner, OneAyle will support Ubukata not only in the system renewal itself, but also from the earliest visioning stage. We will work alongside Ubukata to clarify its mid-to-long-term DX direction and target management model, and use the phased adoption of SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition as a catalyst to realise Re-BPR—a renewed, deliberate business transformation that rethinks processes and ways of working from the ground up.
Background
Ubukata has leveraged SAP as its core system for over two decades, implementing SAP R/3 in 2004 and migrating to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition in 2020. While the system has been operated with limited reliance on add-ons, repeated Brownfield upgrades over time have made it increasingly difficult to fully revisit business processes and generate new business value.
Against this backdrop, Ubukata decided to fundamentally modernize its core platform by adopting SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition—where regulatory updates and functional innovations are delivered as a cloud service—rather than continuing incremental extensions of the existing environment.
Project Overview
The project will cover core business domains including Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Sales, Production, Procurement & Inventory Management, and Quality Management. By leveraging standard capabilities in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition and a Fit-to-Standard approach, Ubukata will strengthen its management foundation through business standardization and process redesign—aiming to reduce dependence on bespoke operational practices and establish a platform that supports continuous improvement.
SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition provides broad coverage of manufacturing-relevant business processes through standard functionality and offers the flexibility to scale for future site rollouts and user growth. Ubukata will initially drive standardization and efficiency using Public Edition, then proceed with a phased transition from Private Edition, carefully maintaining continuity with its existing landscape.
Preparing the foundation for future AI-enabled use cases
This initiative is positioned not only as an ERP modernization project, but also as a foundational step towards future business AI adoption. By centralizing business data through SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, Ubukata will establish a reliable data foundation to support future initiatives such as budget/actual management, forecasting of performance outlook, more precise cost management, and shop-floor operational efficiency—enabling better decision-making and continuous business enhancement over time.
Quotes
Shinnosuke Ubukata, President & CEO, Ubukata Industries
“More than 20 years have passed since we implemented SAP ERP, and over time the system had become primarily a mechanism for processing daily operations. We concluded that we must not make ‘maintenance and upgrades’ the goal; instead, we need to rethink how work is done and pursue Re-BPR—reforming our management and operations for the future.”
Hiroshi Suzuki, President & Representative Director, SAP Japan
“Ubukata has made a forward-looking decision to build a next-generation platform with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition at the core—while recognizing the value of its existing assets and looking ahead to growth and AI enablement. We believe this step-by-step transformation, centered on standardization and redesign of the management foundation, will support sustainable value creation. SAP, together with our partners, will continue to support this transformation over the long term.”
Shotaro Takasaki, Managing Director, OneAyle Consulting
“This project is not simply an ‘ERP replacement’. It is a management transformation initiative delivered end-to-end—from upfront visioning through business standardization and process redesign, all the way to establishing a foundation for data-driven value creation. Anchored in a Fit-to-Standard approach, we will work alongside Ubukata to realize Re-BPR that connects frontline execution with management decision-making, and contribute to the company’s mid-to-long-term DX journey.”
